We were very fortunate in that our subdivision is only five years old and, as a result, we have immature trees. We lost our fence as did most everyone in the subdivision but suffered no damage to the house itself. Praise the Lord! My buddy JG looked over our house on Saturday morning at 8:00AM while the storm was still blowing strong. The fact that the storm made landfall over the East end of Galveston Island and the eye passed directly over our houses was fortunate for my family, my brother-in-law's family, and my friends. However, it was devastating for the Gilchrist and Crystal Beach communities as these were basically wiped off the map due to the storm surge on the dirty side of the storm.
My buddies, JG, SS, ML, MS, SS2, and CG's bayside houses in TI subdivision suffered heavy damage where the lower rooms and stairways were washed away in the storm surge. As of now, my next door neighbor reports that we still have no power but have water and natural gas. Petro Gas is in severe shortage in the area and there a multi-hour lines at present for both vehicle fill-ups and gas can fill-ups for use in generators.
My family remains at my brother's house and I am travelling on business. I'm scheduled to fly back into Houston on Wednesday and I pray that I am able to do so. God willing, we'll have power by then. I'm not looking forward to cleaning out the freezer and refridgerator of rancid meat and rotting produce.
